23 - TROLLEYS

Trolleys is a well-known Banksy work that fully showcases his ability to merge Street Art, graffiti, and sharp social satire. The image depicts three prehistoric men in a sparse environment, strongly reminiscent of hunting scenes drawn on cave walls by early humans.

The characters wield various weapons, preparing to attack their prey. Yet the targets are not mammoths or wild animals—they are modern shopping carts. This is another indictment of capitalism, a clever satire on the impact of consumerism. The carts have transformed: they are no longer allies of our daily shopping routine but dangerous creatures from which we must defend ourselves. The message is clear: we Westerners, isolated in cities without access to hunting or growing our own food, are entirely dependent on products displayed in supermarkets for survival.

In recent years, media coverage has highlighted incidents in which ordinary consumers fought fiercely over the best deals in shopping centers. During Black Friday, one can witness these “new prehistoric humans” competing—sometimes violently—for items they never expected to desire so intensely.
